You're right though, there's definitely a lot that goes into them, and they are tougher for relative beginners to the game. The cool thing about auction leagues is that you have just as good a chance at acquiring certain players as everyone else. In snake formats, unless you draw a top 3 draft spot, there's little chance you'd get AP, Chris Johnson, or Foster. In auction, if you pay the right price, you can get anyone. Also, value changes a lot from auction to auction - there's always runs in players, in all types of drafts, and value can fluctuate a little bit - but auctions are great in that you might just have to overpay to get a guy, because everyone is spending a little much. I always think that great players that go early in auctions go for a little bit more money than they should, but sometimes you can get a steal with the first couple picks because owners are reluctant to spend money early. I like to put guys up for auction that I think are overhyped and that I don't want on my team unless it's for a good price. That way, usually, other owners will spend money early on guys you don't want - that works in both making your money worth more and filling up your buddies' rosters.
