theRUNDOWN Review: Week 16

December 24, 2008 by Papa Weimer · Leave a Comment

Well it didn’t go all bad for me this week - wait, yes it did- not only did I lose in 3 fantasy superbowls, but I also lost my lunch at the local Cost-Cutter, and then I throw out this gross number - 130 - but I guess it’s been worse- This was theRUNDOWN for Week 16.
QB: Jay Cutler vs. Buffalo: Jay was the 5th rated quarterback this week, behind Rivers, Manning, and Cassel and Tyler Thigpen - his 27 fantasy points helped me win, but it didn’t help his Broncos stay away from having a loser out game in San Diego next week - awesome. I really win twice there.
RB: Maurice Jones Drew vs. Indianapolis: Jones Drew did a great job of catching some balls, and that gave me some solid pointage. In fact, he was the #4 running back in the league last week. I’ll take those 23 points with a smile.
RB: Matt Forte vs. Green Bay: I needed 19 from Forte to win one of my fantasy super bowls - as it turned out he only finished with 17, so I lost. Tough one to take, I thought GB would allow big stuff to Forte - it hurts to be wrong.
FLEX: Thomas Jones vs. Seattle: Jones had 11 - I hate Eric Mangini.
WR: Andre Johnson vs. Oakland: AJ had 3 fantasy points - I didn’t get to see the game, but I was thinking he must be sitting this one out. Then I saw him catch a late pass, and wondered where he was all day. Apparently covered on lockdown.
WR: Randy Moss vs. Arizona: Randy had 16, converting one deep touchdown on a wide receiver screen. He may be getting older, but tell the Cardinals that he’s lost a step.
TE: Tony Gonzalez vs. Miami: TG had 19 - he’s my hero.
K: Josh Brown vs. San Francisco: Josh Brown had 11, one of my top scorers. I’m getting this kicker thing down pat.
D: Pittsburgh vs. Tennessee: I was wrong here, the Steelers defense was abused a little, and they gave up enough points to hurt me, they got 2 fantasy points.
PAPA’S Week 16 SLEEPERS
Tyler Thigpen: A couple picks, but great numbers otherwise and 3 total touchdowns. I win again. A+
Dan Orlovsky: I get a good one with Thigpen, then a crap pick here - Dan-O did notta. F
Shaun Hill: 18 fantasy points? You bet, not a Tyler Thigpen day, but still a start you should have made I’m guessing. B+
Pierre Thomas: He didn’t have to do that much work against the Lions. In the middle of the 2nd quarter, the Saints had 4 rushing TDs one of which went to Pierre. Still he pulled home 16 points, not too shabby for a half day’s work. B
Kevin Smith: All he did was rush for 111 yards and a touchdown - can’t argue with those numbers. A-
Leon Washington: Whoops! F.
Kevin Walter: 2 catches for 17 yards - sorry about this one guys, big swing and a miss. F
Devin Hester: 2 catches for 12 yards, good day to be a receiver on my fantasy squad apparently. F
Tory Holt: 4 grabs for 55 yards - that doesn’t really do it, but it basically tripples peformances from Walter and Hester… C-
Jeremy Shockey: He got hurt, but seeing as though I might deserve it, I’ll take the F.
Miami Dolphins: The Fins had 11, but they picked some balls off and were that close to having a big day. C-
Papa’S Week 15 Splinter-Butts (bench him, son)
Tony Romo: I was right on the button until his last minute toss to Jason Witten - oh well, he had a decent game but not great. I started Rivers over him in my league, and it helped me out.
LaDainian Tomlinson: 25th overall, if that was good enough for you to start him, than sorry for the advice. He got 13 fantasy points - like I said, there’s a lot of guys I’d start over LT this week. 24 would have worked out.
Maurice Morris: 29 carries for 119 yards against the Jets. I’ll be the first to say that’s about 60 yards more than I expected. He didn’t score and didn’t catch a ball, he had 11 - not a great sit by me, but not a bad one either.
Santonio Holmes: 5 catches, 93 yards, and one diving touchdown catch. Needless to say I blew this one.

theRUNDOWN Review: Week 15

December 16, 2008 by luckylester · Leave a Comment

It was an interesting week. Any time the Top 5 running backs have Pierre Thomas, Dominic Rhodes, Tashard Choice and Kevin Faulk listed as 1,2,4,5 - something weird is going on. Throw in Tarvaris Jackson as a top QB, things are just plain crazy. It was a good day for those that found a fill in running back late. Here’s how my team scored

QB: Kurt Warner vs. Minnesota: Kurt finished with 14 fantasy points, not what I was hoping for. The other guy I was considering, Drew Brees, only had 17, so I wasn’t going to be happy either way. Looks like I should have taken Tarvaris Jackson. Nice.
RB: DeAngelo Williams vs. Denver: 17 fantasy points for DeAngelo, this guy is legit. He’s become a sure thing every week.
RB: Matt Forte vs. New Orleans: Just 16 points for Forte, as he struggled after an early ankle roll.
FLEX: Brian Westbrook vs. Cleveland: I’m not too impressed with the Eagles offense, and in turn Brian’s production. He didn’t get into the end-zone, and his 9 points didn’t help me one bit.
WR: Larry Fitzgerald vs. Minnesota: Larry had 5 catches for 50+ and took home 10 points.
WR: Greg Jennings vs. Jacksonville: Greg only had a few catches for a few yards, but he did catch a TD - still 11 points, and 21 from two receivers is not a happy outing.
TE: Tony Gonzalez vs. San Diego: Tony had 18, finishing behind Dallas Clark’s huge week for the Colts. Still, nobody is as consistent and as good as Tony. He has 50 more fantasy points than any TE in the league.
K: Olindo Mare vs. St. Louis: Tough to throw my kicker of the week in Seattle’s offense, but why not? This guy is playing in St. Louis and the Hawks are bound to attempt 3 or 4 field goals.
D: Philadelphia Eagles vs. Cleveland: 3rd rated defense this weekend with 24 fantasy points. I felt good about this one for good reason.

PAPA’S Week 15 SLEEPERS

Tyler Thigpen: He was a top 10 guy once again, and his 30+ rushing yards and rushing TD got him to 20 points on the week. He helped me win yet another game and now I’m in the Super Fantasy Bowl.
Kyle Orton: I was excited about Kyle’s chances but he managed just 6 points. He was good enough down the stretch though, and two possible touchdown passes got pass interfered with and he didn’t get yards or the score. Those are the breaks.
Seneca Wallace: Seneca was bad in Week 15, especially in the first half. I’ll take F’s for him and Orton.
Pierre Thomas: Don’t mind this start, he was just the Top scoring running back in Week 15. Yhatzee. A+++
Kevin Smith: Smith was the 8th rated running back, finding plenty of holes against the Colts and being a huge part of the Lions offensive success. This kid will fly under the radar a little bit next season, don’t sleep on him. A
Jonathan Stewart: Well, at least he was better than the 4 stars that I listed. His 52 yards and a score got him 11. More than Parker, Lewis, or Barber.
Domenick Hixon: Hixon had 12 points, not great but not terrible either. C
Devin Hester: Hester’s awesome game didn’t translate to fantasy success, which is too bad. He finished out of the top 30, but is responsible for the Bears win, as his PI draws got the Bears into great position. If only Kyle could lead the wide open Hester. C
Bryant Johnson: BJ had 9 - not great, but just about what he’s been getting lately. In 4 of the last 5 he has at least 9 fantasy points. C
John Carlson: JC had 12 and was a Top 5 TE, I think he should be drafted as such heading into next season.
New England Patriots: The Pats finished just outside of the Top 10 at 11th overall this week. JaMarcus Russell played well for the Raiders, and if it weren’t for some early mistakes the game would have been much closer.

Papa’S Week 15 Splinter-Butts (bench him, son)

Marc Bulger: Well he was better than Seneca, but Tyler Thigpen and Chad Pennington were both better than him. Jeff Garcia didn’t play. Marc was better than I thought he’d be as he managed 16 fantasy points.
Tim Hightower: 5 rushes for 20 yards. 5 catches for 20 yards. Hardly an awesome outing, huh?
Jamal Lewis: Even worse than I though, Jamal had 14 carries for 32 yards, no scores either.
Randy Moss: Randy had just under 70 yards of receiving, but his 2 touchdowns made him a good start. Sorry about that one.

theRUNDOWN Review: Week 14

December 9, 2008 by luckylester · Leave a Comment

165 points from my starters this week - not too shabby - check out all my work from top to bottom!

QB: Matt Cassel vs. Seattle: Matt was tied for 11th overall amongst quarterbacks - should have gone with the Peyton Manning match-up - dang. Still 19 points isn’t bad.

RB: Adrian Peterson vs. Detroit: 102 yards and 1 catch for 15 yards - he was good for just 12 points against the Lions - come on.

RB: Matt Forte vs. Jacksonville: 69 yards rushing against the Jags? Ouch. Still, Forte’s catching ability gave him 5 grabs for 37 yards and while he didn’t score a TD, he still managed 14 fantasy points.

FLEX: LT vs. Oakland: He scored and rushed for 91 yards, but it took him 25 carries - against the Raiders of all teams. I’m interested to see where LT gets drafted in fantasy circles next season. 16 points for LT2.

WR: Roddy White vs. New Orleans: 10 grabs for 164 yards, but no TDs for Roddy. Still, White did work. He was 4th amongst WRs, and I needed it - him and Marshall made this week respectable for me. 26.

WR: Brandon Marshall vs. Kansas City: Brandon had 11 grabs for just 91 yards, but he took two of those catches to the house. He was 2nd amongst WRs and 4th overall in fantasy land. 32 for the big receiver.

TE: Tony Gonzalez vs. Denver: 5 catches for 73 yards and a touchdown - Tony is as good as it gets, even though he’s old. 2nd TE overall. 18 fantasy points.

K: Ryan Longwell vs. Detroit: 2 Forty-yarders and 2 extra points - I wanted one more field goal attempt - but 10 points is decent here. He was the 5th rated kicker this week.

D: Tennessee Titans vs. Cleveland: 17 points from the Titans - the Browns didn’t take many chances, but Tennessee shut them down all day long.

PAPA’S Week 14 SLEEPERS

Tyler Thigpen: 16 fantasy points - not the biggest day ever, but he’s worth playing once again. B

Daunte Culpepper: He did toss for 220 yards, but got just one touchdown. Still, 14 points isn’t bad. B

JaMarcus Russell: Ugh. F

Pierre Thomas: 4th overall amongst running backs - and he’s still the best running back in New Orleans. A+

Cedric Benson: 57 yards and 1 catch against the Colts - not good enough. 6 points. D-

Domenick Hixon: Hix dropped a sure thing 60+ yard reception, and it looked like he would have scored - as is, he didn’t do much. I missed, but by just that much. 3 grabs for 30 yards. Maybe I was wrong about Plax’s absence? D-

Devin Hester: 5 catches for 80 yards - could you imagine this guy playing a slot roll for the Patriots… Dirty. Anyway, he’ll be a solid receiver in Chicago for years to come. B+

Zach Miller: 8 grabs for 64 yards made him the 4th TE overall - he’s a must start. Even on the Raiders. A

Arizona Cardinals: 3rd defense this week. How do you like me now? A+

Papa’S Week 14 Splinter-Butts (bench him, son)

Marc Bulger: 220 a TD and a pick - better than I thought, but still, there were 17 guys better than Marc - Shaun HIll, Tyler Thigpen, Kerry Collins, Culpepper, Orton, Seneca Wallace, and Jeff Garcia were 7 of them.

DeAngelo Williams: Can I miss more? TB killed me in many ways this week, and it all started with giving up 300+ rushing yards to the Panthers.

MeWelde Moore/Willie Parker: These guys didn’t do anything in a Pittsburgh win. Dallas’s D came to play.

Kevin Walter: Yikes! Kevin Walter killed me this week. Well, he was on just about everyone’s bench, but still - he was no player to sit. Not when Matt Schaub torched the Packers secondary for a win in GB and 400+ yards. Walter was his #1 target.

theRUNDOWN Review: Week 13

December 2, 2008 by Papa Weimer · Leave a Comment

How’d it go? Well I ended up with….. 184 - not too shabby at all. Three Top 5 running backs - that’s how I roll.

QB: Tony Romo vs. Seattle: 30 points for Tony, not a bad day. He ended up 3rd amongst quarterbacks behind Donovan McNabb and Aaron Rodgers. That’s the day I was looking for.

RB: Chris Johnson vs. Detroit: Chris Johnson’s 126 yards and two scores was good enough for 8th overall, 4th amongst running backs, he tallied 26 fantasy points on Sunday.

RB: Steve Slaton vs. Jacksonville: It took him a while to find the end-zone, but once he did, he managed to do it twice. Steve ran well all night, and the Texans pounded a lost Jaguar group on Monday Night Football. Steve busted out 21 carries for 130 yards and two touchdowns on the ground, he also grabbed two balls for 52 yards through the air. Yhatzee. That’s 32 fantasy points for my main man Steven.

FLEX: Thomas Jones vs. Denver: Jones had 100+ yards and 2 scores in the first quarter and a half against the Broncos, but New York stopped running the ball after that. Why? Well because they wanted to lose obviously. And if failing, they succeeded. Yhatzee. Still, Jones finished behind just Westbrook and DeAngelo amongst running backs, finishing with 29 fantasy points.

WR: Reggie Wayne vs. Cleveland: Reggie had just 4 catches for 46 yards as Peyton was off-target. That duo killed me in more than a couple leagues this weekend. 8 points for Reggie.

WR: Brandon Marshall vs. New York Jets: Marshall didn’t do much better than Reggie, grabbing 5 balls for 55 yards. Brandon dropped a couple passes, one of which would have been good for a touchdown. Nice. 10 points.

TE: Antonio Gates vs. Atlanta: 3 catches for 27 yards - weak sauce. I wasn’t impressed with the Chargers as their season was on the line and they chocked on a fishy cracker. 5 points.

K: Rod Bironas vs. Detroit: What do you know? I called it. The guy kicked 4 field goals, all 40-49 yarders and he busted in 5 extra points to boot. That is good for 21 fantasy points and my biggest kicker day ever, not to mention the #1 kicker overall in Week 13. My kicker curse has been kicked!

D: Baltimore Ravens vs. Cincinnati: 23 fantasy points in my league, quite the day from the Ravens.

PAPA’S Week 12 SLEEPERS

Tyler Thigpen: Just 162 yards and no touchdown for Tyler, but his 48 rushing yards added to his point total and he got 9 against the Raiders - still not enough for me. D+

Kyle Orton: 153 yards and 2 touchdowns, but -6 points from 3 interceptions didn’t help his cause. Still, 12 points for Kyle. C-

Warrick Dunn: Just 74 rushing yards for Warrick, not a great day by any means. No TDs and no catches. C-

Ronnie Brown: 48 rushing yards and a touchdown - that has been about what Ronnie does, I expected more from him against the Rams. C-

Kevin Walter: 2 grabs for 38 yards, yeah, sorry about that, I didn’t think the Jaguars defense would roll over for the rushing game quite like that. D-

Domenick Hixon: 5 catches for 71 yards, and if you picked him up and started him then you get a nice starting option from here on out because Plaxico shot himself. Nice. B+

Devin Hester: 3 grabs for 67 yards and a touchdown. Just like I hoped, Devin found the end zone. A-

Zach Miller: 5 grabs for 79 yards, that’s a nice day from a waiver wire tight end. A-

Miami Dolphins: 10 points from Miami, they didn’t play as well as I thought they would against one of the league’s worst. Weird.

Papa’S Week 13 Splinter-Butts (bench him, son)

Kerry Collins: 4 fantasy points from Kerry - so much for that dreamy Detroit Lions secondary match-up eh? You’re welcome.

Timothy Hightower: 7 rushing yards, his 3 grabs for 34 yards gave him 6 points in a PPR league, still, you’re welcome if you’ve listened to me about this guy and the Cards rushing attack.

Clinton Portis: 11 carries, 22 yards, 1 catch for 15 yards - your welcome to those who listened.

Lee Evans: 7 catches for 80 yards is a nice day from Lee, not great, but good enough to make me wrong about his benching in Week 13.

theRUNDOWN Review: Week 11

November 17, 2008 by Papa Weimer · Leave a Comment

For those of you new to theRUNDOWN this is what I do. I pick my best team of the week, some nice plays with a few reasons to back up my picks. After that I list a couple sleepers, either decent guys that I expect to have good weeks, or relatively unused guys I like to do well. Then, at the end I list a few usually solid guys that I would leave on the bench. Last week I had one of my best rundown’s of the season - how’d this weekend go? It was a tough week to be one of my sleepers, but my starting lineup basically did work. Here’s the final tally… 152… Check it out!

QB: Jay Cutler vs. Atlanta: Well I was wrong about Jay and it definitely helped me out. A late touchdown gave me just enough fantasy points for Jay’s selection not to be a complete waste, but not enough for Jay to beat me in the leagues I played him in this week. 14 for Cutler.

RB: Matt Forte vs. Green Bay: The Packers played inspired defense against the run, and dominated the Bears on Sunday - still, Forte got 16 fantasy points, a PPR league dream, 60 yards on the ground, but 6 catches for 40 yards through the air.

RB: Frank Gore vs. St. Louis: Gore finished 6th amongst running backs, and hardly played in the second half - getting rest after gashing the Rams early. 106 rushing, 2 TDs, 2 grabs for just 8 yards, and a fumble. Frank finished with 22 fantasy points.

FLEX: DeAngelo Williams vs. Detroit: DeAngelo was outgained by his backfield buddy, Jon Stewart, but Williams got 2 touchdowns to Stewart’s 1 and Williams still rushed for 120 yards on Sunday. He was #3 amongst running backs with 24 fantasy points.

WR: Anquan Boldin vs. Seattle: Boldin did work in Seattle. He didn’t catch a touchdown, but there’s something special about 13 catches for 186 yards - 31 fantasy points made him the #2 receiver in Week 11.

WR: Roddy White vs. Denver: Roddy had 5 grabs for 102 yards, but it was his 50 yard touchdown drop on 3rd and long with the game winding down that I remember most - tough day to be a Falcon. 15 for White.

TE: Tony Gonzalez vs. New Orleans: 8 for Tony, he grabbed 5 balls on way to 39 yards - the old man is as solid as they get.

K: Jason Elam vs. Denver: 2 field goals and 2 extra points - one was 49 yards - so I got 9 from Elam, not so shabby. Maybe I’m kicking this kicker problem I’ve been having for a couple years.

D: Carolina Panthers vs. Detroit: 13 points for the Panthers - they gave up more than I hoped for, but 2 interceptions, 3 sacks, and 2 fumbles made for a solid day fantasy wise.

PAPA’S Week 11 SLEEPERS

Tyler Thigpen: Tyler Thigpen was tied for 3rd in QB rankings this week. Yes folks, he’s still good. A+

Matt Ryan: Matt had 9 fantasy points this week, not a good week for him or the Falcons. I take this one on the chin. D

Ricky Williams: Ricky had 49 yards on the ground, and two grabs for 6 yards - he shoots and he misses. D

Jerious Norwood: I started Norwood over Ryan Grant, now I’m praying for a win tonight. Great. D

Brandon Jones: He was on your free agent list, if you picked him up you got a little bit of yardage but a nice touchdown to make him worth your while. B

Mark Bradley: 3 catches for 57 yards - a huge dropped pass that sent KC home with a 10 point loss. Great. D

Deion Branch: 4 catches for 54 yards, but I’m willing to bet that his addition gets better and better, and you might have found a nice playoff player for nothing. C

Billy Miller: Not much for Shockey on Sunday, but even less for Billy, try no catches in the Saints win. F

Tampa Bay Buccaneers: The Bucs had a very nice day, they held AP in check pretty much and ended giving up just 10 points in a big win for the Bucs. B

Papa’S Week 11 Splinter-Butts (bench him, son)

David Garrard: I helped you guys here for sure - DG was 28th amongst QBs - not many leagues where that is worth a start.

Willis McGahee: 9 rushes for 18 yards - and you are welcome.

Brandon Jacobs: Jacobs continues to do work. The battering ram did 73 yards of damage against the Ravens in Week 11, and that was on just 11 carries - he also took two of those totes for TDs - I hope you ignored me here, Jacobs was a Top 15 guy in PPR leagues, and ranked even higher in non-ppr formats.

TJ Houshmanzadeh: TJ went gonzo this week, so I apologize. 12 catches, 149 yards, huge game for a very good player. My bad. He also finished the #1 PPR receiver in Week 11. Ouch. Slap in the face.

theRUNDOWN Review: Week 10

November 14, 2008 by luckylester · Leave a Comment

167 for me this week, and that was with 11 points between my starting receiver and QB - so baiscally I killed it the rest of the way. But that wasn’t all, I was on fire with my sits and sleepers - I do work.

QB: Aaron Rodgers vs. Minnesota: Rodgers did take over for Brett’s disgusting Dome habits and didn’t do anything worth while on Sunday. His 5 fantasy points made me want to puke a little bit.

RB: Adrian Peterson vs. Green Bay: 31 fantasy points for AP - 2nd best amongst running backs, and it was his 192 yards with his team carefully sitting cross legged squarely on his shoulders that impressed me the most. Beast.

RB: Jamal Lewis vs. Denver: Jamal had 16 fantasy points, but I expected more. The Broncos did everything they could to stop the run.

FLEX: LaDainian Tomlinson vs. KC: Tomlinson had 14 fantasy points, but he didn’t have that good of a day. He had a low YPC average against the worst run defense in the league, and only scored decent points because of his receptions out of the backfield. Tough year to pick LT first overall, that’s for sure.

WR: Anquan Boldin vs. San Francisco: 2nd overall with 29 WR fantasy points. This guy catches touchdowns, he’s a beast, he’s fearless, and that says a lot for a guy with plates and jack in his face. Beast.

WR: Greg Jennings vs. Minnesota: 6 fantasy points for Greg, matching his QB, perfect… Ugh.

TE: Kellen Winslow vs. Denver: He may have dropped a late 4th down pass, and his fumble was huge, but if it weren’t for Winslow basically beasting Denver all night long, the Browns wouldn’t have been in that position - so there Chris Collinsworth- you dick. Winslow finished two points behind Tony Gonzalez as he tallied 31 fantasy points. NIce day for me.

K: Stephen Gostkowski vs. Buffalo: Only 8 fantasy points for Stephen, but that’s good enough for me.

D: Carolina Panthers vs. Oakland: 27 fantasy points and the 2nd best defense in the league (2nd to my sleeper pick, mind you) - so I basically did work this week.

PAPA’S Week 1 SLEEPERS

Tyler Thigpen: My new favorite players was 3rd overall for quarterbacks with 30 fantasy points. A+ and keep him on your roster folks.

Daunte Culpepper: 104 yards and a pick. No touchdown after leading his team down to the 1 yard line - Drew Stanton came in to throw the TD. Interesting. I was right and then wrong - what can you do? F

Maurice Jones Drew: The guy had 3 scores and 70 yards on 11 carries.  He also caught the rock. 2 RBs had better fantasy days than Drew’s 29 points, AP and Thomas Jones. A

Timothy Hightower: Shut down! 13 totes for 22 yards. Maybe he’s not the next Edge, eh? F

Mushin Muhammad: 12 fantasy points for Mush on a day where Jake Delhomme was about as bad as a QB can be. An early TD saved Mush’s day. Still, I expected more. B-

Mark Bradley: 23 fantasy points, 5th overall, for Mark freaking Bradley - I dig this kid. A

Billy Miller: 11 fantasy points as Billy hits double digits again - as a sleeper TE there might not be anybody better than Billy. B+

New York Jets: 47-3… I’m not even going to calculate the points, but the Jets did work. There were the best defense in the league this week though.  A

Papa’S Week 6 Splinter-Butts (bench him, son)

Big Ben Roethlisberger: Five points for Ben, and he was almost the high scorer on my Splinter-Butts section. I had a great week, better than Ben.

Bernard Berrian: BB didn’t do anything. NO catches or fantasy points or anything. Did I mention I lost my game by an overtime player? Did I also mention that Marvin would have won me that game? I get a great grade here, but a dumb above my fantasy move.

Steve Slaton: Slaton didn’t do anything - he wasn’t a top 50 running back last week. Good thing I let you know.

Marvin Harrison: You’re welcome - 6 fantasy points on a day where he dropped as many balls as he caught. Tough day for Marv - but he’ll bounce back… I think.

theRUNDOWN Review: Week 9

November 3, 2008 by luckylester · Leave a Comment

Gross week for my top team, I wish I would have played some of my sleepers. Anyway, this is how my bad fantasy day broke down… 92 fantasy points, under 100 fantasy points is not good here…

QB: Matt Schaub vs. Minnesota: Matty got hurt in the first half after not playing so well to start with. 139 yards and an interception gives me 3 fantasy points from my quarterback this week - awesome.

RB: Matt Forte vs. Detroit: 126 rushing yards for Forte, but the normally productive pass catcher got less chances this week with Rex Grossman taking over going into the 2nd half. He had just 1 catch for 5 yards. His total output was solid, and he was a big reason the Bears came back to beat the Lions, but he got me just 13 fantasy points.

RB: Earnest Graham vs. Kansas City: 62 yards rushing, 5 catches for 29 yards, and 1 three yard touchdown pass - he didn’t do anything great, but Graham did a little bit of it all, enough to pile me up 19 fantasy points for the week.

FLEX: Brandon Marshall vs. Miami: 2 catches for 27 yards? 4 points? Uh oh.

WR: Larry Fitzgerald vs. St. Louis: 6 catches for 81 yards got me 14 points, but once again Boldin got a touchdown and Fitzy didn’t.

WR: Andre Johnson vs. Minnesota: 4 grabs for 62 yards and a touchdown, Johnson is a beast but the Texans looked off early. Still, 16 points isn’t too shabby.

TE: Zach Miller vs. Atlanta: 2 catches, 9 yards, 2 fantasy points. Not good. The Raiders had 31 passing yards on the day. Ha.

K: Matt Prater vs. Miami: A 50 yarder and two extra points, Prater got me 7 - should have kept going with Gostkowski.

D: Philadelphia Eagles vs. Seattle: 4 sacks, just 7 points, and under 300 yards of total offense against the Eagles, they got me 13 fantasy points - not as good as I hoped, but they absolutely dominated this game.

PAPA’S Week 1 SLEEPERS

David Garrad: No touchdowns, just 229 yards and a pick. Not a good day for my top sleeper QB. F

Chad Pennington: Chad had 281 yards, but no TDs and a pick to make him a 9 point scorer on the week. D

Maurice Jones Drew: 2 catches for 29 yards, 10 carries for 33 yards and a touchdown - 13 fantasy points, not the worst day ever, but goodness, how bad has it gotten for the Jags rushing attack? C

Justin Fargas: 6 carries for 23 yards, and that’s it. But get this, the Raiders had only 14 minutes to Atlanta’s 15 minutes of possession. Ridiculous. F

Donnie Avery: Back to reality. F

Chad Johnson: Two touchdown catches for Mr. Johnson - 5 grabs for 36 yards as well. Not a huge day, but good enough to get the Bengals a win - 20 points for Chad. A

Greg Olsen: 2 catches for 10 yards. Miss. F

New England Patriots: Not a bad day for the Pats, but they missed some chances to make some big things happen, and they ended up with a pretty normal day defensively, not allowing a lot of points or touchdowns, but not doing much to get points either. The Pats gave me 5 fantasy points - what’s new… D-

Papa’S Week 6 Splinter-Butts (bench him, son)

Big Ben Roethlisberger: Well, he was 5-17 with basically nothing by way of yardage and then he took a step and fell into the end zone, giving him at least some points for his owners. That being said, it wasn’t enough to make me wrong here - and that makes me happy I guess.

Ryan Grant: 20 carries for 86 yards, not a bad day for Grant, but his 8 fantasy points weren’t amazing by any means.

Edgerrin James: ”For eternity folks, bench him that long. I’ve been one of his biggest fans, but there’s a time when you have to let go, when he’s still a strong bench him candidate against the Rams, now’s that time.” Didn’t play a snap, and you have to believe me now.

Terrell Owens: His 4th quarter meaningless touchdown makes his day look better, he had 4 catches for less than 30 yards prior to that last one. 14 points for TO against New York.

theRUNDOWN Review: Week 8

November 1, 2008 by luckylester · Leave a Comment

Week 8 had some nice plays, this is what the final tally brought in…  151 for me on Sunday - that’s a solid week all the way around. I’d like to thank my kicker, Gostkowski, for his leadership in my total…

QB: Donovan McNabb vs. Atlanta: McNabb’s 16 fantasy points got him into the Top 10 this week, but I expected more against Atlanta. Unfortunately it was Brian Westbrook tallying all the fantasy points in Philly.

RB: Clinton Portis vs. Detroit: Portis played a little more than a half, but still got plenty of looks and finished with 126 yards. He tallied just 13 fantasy points though, and I needed more.

RB: Thomas Jones vs. Kansas City: Jones was a victim of Brett’s interceptions on Sunday, getting just 14 carries, but doing enough with those to get 12 fantasy points. Still, 12 is not something I like to see from my top guys.

FLEX: Steve Slaton vs. Cincinnati: Just 14 for Slaton. The Texans didn’t need to slam their rookie runner that long, they were up big and got the ball to other people as the day went forward.

WR: Larry Fitzgerald vs. Carolina: 7 catches for 115 yards against the Panthers, but he was once again shut out of the end-zone - damn Anquan Boldin’s red zone dominance! 18 points for Larry.

WR: Andre Johnson vs. Cincinnati: Andre had 25 big ones again this week, catching 11 more balls for 143 yards. No touchdowns once again - it’s really amazing that you could catch 22 balls for 284 yards in two weeks and not find the end-zone. Not happy amazing, but amazing nonetheless.

TE: Antonio Gates vs. New Orleans: Gates was second to Dallas Clark with 6 catches for 96 yards and a score in the Chargers loss to New Orleans in England. 21 fantasy points from the former hooper.

K: Stephen Gostkowski vs. St. Louis:I went with Ghost for the 2nd week in a row and I was rewarded - this week I got 12 from Stephen and he was a Top 5 guy. I’m loving it!

D: Baltimore Ravens vs. Oakland: 19 fantasy points in my league, a nice day of tormenting the Raiders - that’s for sure.

PAPA’S Week 1 SLEEPERS

David Garrard: Garrard did everything for the Jaguars in their 4th loss of the season, and was the 2nd rated quarterback on Sunday with 283 yards 2 touchdowns, and 59 rushing yards. He was doing work. A+

Jason Campbell: His highest yardage output of the season, Campbell went for 328 a touchdown and still no picks. That was good for 17 and good for a B+.

LenDale White: LenDale pulled one of his all time best Jerome Bettis impersonations carrying the ball 11 times for just 13 yards, but still managing 14 fantasy points because of his two short scores. His last one was huge, a great effort giving the Titans a nice lead. B

Jamal Lewis: 81 yards and a touchdown for Lewis, not a bad day at all. B-

Vincent Jackson: 4 grabs for 60 yards and a touchdown - 16 points was another productive day from Vincent. B

Josh Morgan: Didn’t see a catch. Dropped one ball to start with and I think he was taken out. That’s a good way to coach - STUPID! F

Billy Miller: Great day for Billy, he greatly outscored Jeremy Shockey and finished with 7 catches for 82 yards, giving him 15 fantasy points. For a waiver wire pick-up he might have won you your game.

New York Jets: Just 6 points against the Chiefs - bad day for the Jets, bad day for me taking them as my sleeper D - Brett’s interceptions and the Jets turnovers put their D on the field way too much. F

Papa’S Week 6 Splinter-Butts (bench him, son)

Matt Cassel: 267 passing a touchdown and two picks - Cassel’s day wasn’t good by any means, but it wasn’t as bad as I expected either.

Mewelde Moore: Moore played great - I am wrong about him. He does lots of little things in the passing game and is hard to stop completely because of it.

Dominic Rhodes: Rhodes is the same thing as Moore, a tough player to stop because he’s going to get open in the passing game and do work there too. He finished a point behind Mewelde, and both made me look foolish.

Roddy White: 8 catches for 131 yards and a touchdown. Roddy is officially one of those receivers that never have bad match-ups, just bad games. He’s too physical for corner backs, and his speed get him where he needs to be. Nice day for Roddy, bad day for me.

theRUNDOWN Review: Week 7

November 1, 2008 by luckylester · Leave a Comment

The old squad didn’t do wonderous things today, oh well - here’s how that game went down… 129 fantasy points in this format just flat out doesn’t cut it.

QB: Jay Cutler vs. New England: 168 yards, one touchdown, two interceptions… Needless to say, I was dead wrong about this game. It was a bad week for quarterbacks, Cassel lead the group with 25 fantasy points, but Cutler’s 9 fantasy points basically killed me.

RB: Clinton Portis vs. Cleveland: Clinton was the 7th rated running back with 22 fantasy points, rushing for 175 yards and a touchdown. Portis has beasted every team he’s gone up against this season.

RB: Marion Barber vs. Rams: 100 yards and a touchdown for Barber, and the Cowboys got way behind to boot. They need to give him the ball even more if they want to win. 16 fantasy points for me.

FLEX: Greg Jennings vs. Colts: 3 catches for 32 yards - 6 points wasn’t what I was looking for. I definitely underestimated the Colts secondary.

WR: Brandon Marshall vs. New England: 6 catches for 76 yards, that’s just 13 points. The Broncos were bad, so obviously it didn’t help my cause.

WR: Andre Johnson vs. Detroit: 11 grabs for 141 yards - AJ was the 7th rated player overall on Sunday, and he didn’t even catch a touchdown. Craziness. 25 points for the beast.

TE: Jason Witten vs. St. Louis: 6 catches for 44 yards for 10 points. I needed more.

K: Stephen Gostkowski vs. Denver: 12 points from my kicker, that’s huge for me - probably my best kicker pick ever. Tied for 2nd on the day amongst kickers too. Yahoo! I’ve broken the curse.

D: Tampa Bay Bucs vs. Seattle: The Bucs defense destroyed Seattle, they got 16 points based on yardage allowed bonuses, and half of the Hawks yards came in the last 5 minutes. Good showing by Tampa.

PAPA’S Week 1 SLEEPERS

Matt Cassel:  His 25 fantasy points lead all quarterbacks for Week 7 - A+

Jason Campbell: 12 fantasy points for Campbell, not too much to write home about. C-

Earnest Graham: 14 fantasy points for Graham, only 54 yards and a touchdown - it looks like I underestimated Seattle’s defense a little bit, but 14’s not a bad day here. B-

Darren McFadden: Just 39 rushing yards for Darren, but 3 grabs for 50 yards gave him 11 fantasy points against the Jets, not too shabby. C-

Vincent Jackson: 4 catches for 42 yards and a touchdown, plus a nice 31 yard reverse scamper. 17 points for the big receiver.

Lance Moore: 3 catches for 10 yards… Puke. F

Devin Hester: Hester was injured on Sunday, meaning we’ll never know what he could have done… Blast. But, he didn’t score much, so I’ll take my F.

Greg Olsen: 6 catches for 74 yards and a touchdown - that’s a huge day for a TE, 2nd overall in fact. A+

Dallas Cowboys: Beat by the Rams - handled actually, run all over, stepped on, then spit on for good measure. F

Papa’S Week 6 Splinter-Butts (bench him, son)

Gus Frerotte: 298 yards and two touchdowns - that’s good numbers. 21 in fact. However, Gus’s 4 interceptions brought him down 8 points all the way to 13 fantasy points on the day. Still, that’s not as bad as I figured.

Willis McGahee: Willis did me in good, he tallied over 150 total yards from scrimmage and scored. He had 20 points and made me look stupid for not starting him. Just like the next guy.

Adrian Peterson: 121 yards and two touchdowns, just further proving my point that you can’t sit him. Stupid me.

Chad Johnson: 8 catches for 52 yards and a touchdown - crap, that’s almost his entire seasons’ worth of points - he had a huge day compared to what he’s done. Overall, I sucked with my bench-ems this week.

theRUNDOWN Review: Week 6

October 14, 2008 by luckylester · 1 Comment

For those of you new to theRUNDOWN this is what I do. I pick my best team of the week, some nice plays with a few reasons to back up my picks. After that I list a couple sleepers, either decent guys that I expect to have good weeks, or relatively unused guys I like to do well. Then, at the end I list a few usually solid guys that I would leave on the bench. This is the review of that stuff from Week 6 - how’d I do this week? Well, 125 points ain’t bad, but I was looking for magic 150…

QB: Tony Romo vs. Arizona: The Cowboys lose, but Romo goes for 321 yards and 3 touchdowns (one fumble, no picks) to tally up 28 points for my guys this week. It feels good to get him right before he goes down.

RB: Adrian Peterson vs. Detroit: 111 yards but he fumbled twice and didn’t score. He caught one ball for -5 yards, but believe it or not that’s a point. 8 points for AP and he almost fumbled the game away to the Lions. Not a good day for my guy.

RB: Matt Forte vs. Atlanta: 7th rated running back with 21 fantasy points, but is Forte breaking down a bit? His yards per carry average has struggled the last few weeks. Still, 76 rushing, 34 receiving, and a touchdown - Forte continues to be a force.

FLEX: Ronnie Brown: Top 10 RB with 18 fantasy points, but I don’t think his 13 carries were enough, and a Dolphins loss shows me that. Still, Ronnie scored and totaled 93 yards offensively.

WR: Greg Jennings vs. Seattle: 5 grabs for 84 yards and a score. I watched Greg drop one, but he’s one of the best receivers in the game. He plays just like Anquan Boldin - the guy is a beast. 19 points for Jennings.

WR: Terrell Owens vs. Arizona: Didn’t do much, not enough to win anyway, the Cardinals had TO on lockdown all day long, and Owens looked pretty frustrated. A couple nice blocks by TO, but that doesn’t make up for his

TE: Jason Witten vs. Cincinnati: 4 catches for 55 yards, and the Cowboys just couldn’t do enough in Arizona. Jason had one of his worst gams of the season but still finished as a Top 10 TE with 9 fantasy points.

K: Josh Scobee vs. Denver: Weird, Scobee didn’t do anything worth while. 3 extra points and a field goal for 7 fantasy points. Great.

D: New York Giants vs. Cleveland: Ugh…. - 0 points - that was a nice one to wait for.

PAPA’S Week 1 SLEEPERS

Jason Campbell: Jason only had 9 fantasy points, and it cost his team a win. The Redskins needed to do more through the air, and fumble the ball less. Not a lost week for Jason, but still, not worth much more than a C- for me.

David Garrard: 16 fantasy points for David, not a top score this week but not horrible either. He was bound to do some good work against the Broncos secondary, everyone does. B

Gus Frerotte: 15 points this week, not too shabby at all. 296 yards and a touchdown with one pick. B

Fred Taylor: Fred went down with a concussion in Week 6, then Jones Drew ran all over the Broncos. It hurts a little bit inside, but you see where I was going with this one, right? 1 fumble, 20 total yards - 0 fantasy points - F

Willis McGahee: Gross. F

Lance Moore: 7 catches for 97 yards, no score, but I’ll take 16 fantasy points from a bye week filler pick up any day. B+

Steve Breaston: # 5 overall amongst wide receivers this week - 8 grabs for 102 yards and a touchdown, you have to like what Breaston is doing. A+

Devin Hester: 6 grabs for 87 yards, no score, but in PPR that’s a nice day, 14 fantasy points - get him now before he finds another roster. B+

Greg Olsen: 3 grabs for 41 yards, 7 fantasy points ain’t bad for a TE.

Washington Redskins: Not bad, but they lost, I can’t be too excited about that. Still, they didn’t allow any yards, holding Jackson under 80 and Bulger only got to 130 something because of a late drive. But they lost, so I will just hate them until they don’t lose to St. Freaking Louis.

Papa’S Week 6 Splinter-Butts (bench him, son)

J.T. O’Sullivan: 199 yards 2 picks one fumble no touchdowns - right? I win this one.

Edgerrin James: 29 rushing yards, his backup had 8 fantasy points - 8-2 backup to starter - your welcome.

Jamal Lewis: 88 yards and a touchdown, right about two wrong about two others. I definitely missed this one as Jamal played well against the Super Bowl Champs.

Steve Smith: 6 catches for 112 yards, so yea, I was wrong about this one.
