USC Trojans @ Colorado Buffaloes Friday Night Free Football Pick: The Trojans started off as a pretty interesting team, struggling badly through Minnesota and Utah before finding their way a little against Syracuse. They were 3-0 to start the season, but a 22-43 beating at the hands of Arizona State made a lot of people wonder. Then, when they could only outscore the Wildcats by a touchdown, giving up 41 points at home to Arizona, I really started to wonder. But things have turned around, and this team has played very good football over the last three weeks.

I don’t think Cal is all that good, but beating them 31-9 at Cal is a pretty solid showing by a team that wasn’t playing good football coming in. Matt Barkley is starting to get some help in the running game, and the young receivers are showing signs of knowing that system a lot better than they did earlier in the season. Beating Notre Dame on the road showed me even more, as I’ve seen Notre Dame play a couple times this season, and expected them to match up well against the Trojans. But USC took it to them, winning by two scores. Last weeks overtime loss to Stanford showed me even more. I know that game meant the season to USC, as the Trojans aren’t bowl eligible, but still – they showed a lot of heart and talent.

The Trojans should be able to big-brother the Buffaloes from start to finish. I know there could be a bit of a let-down after that 3OT loss, but the Trojans will pick it up some time, and I’ll cash in.
