Nebraska Cornhuskers @ Penn State Nittany Lions Free Pick: Well, at least we know there won’t be much attention paid on this game come Saturday. If you haven’t heard in the news at all, then you probably live under a rock, but Penn State is smack dab in the middle of one terrible controversy, and being as it is, the football program has been flip-turned upside down. Everything they were last time they played is lost in the past and now they’re known for a tragedy of cowards failing to use the power they have. It’s sad, but not for the observers like it’s sad for the victims. As for the football game, an afterthought to many pieces of the puzzles grand scheme, should be an interesting battle. A normal football game it won’t be.

In a strictly football sense, I think Penn State has the kids to grind it out with a team like Nebraska. Both teams will feature a rushing attack and a smack you in the face defense. Neither team will light up the airways, and so the game will likely stay close.

But how can Penn State make it through this? Sure, as athletes the Nittany Lions have certainly met hardship and surpassed in, conquered it, achieved in the face of sure defeat. Because that’s the norm for athletes that have made it to starting spots in great football programs. But this is a different defeat, a different feeling. The most recognizable coach in college football won’t be a part of Sunday’s action. Joe Paterno will be somewhere else on Saturday, and his legacy will be somewhere between the field and where he’s at watching the game. It seems surreal. A nightmare. Only it’s real, and as a bettor, it’s hard to believe that the Lions will be at their best come Saturday. I’d take the Huskers anyway – but the week’s events make it an easy one.
