West Virginia Mountaineers @ Syracuse Orange: Friday Night ESPN Football Pick

October 21, 2011 by

There are crazy numbers coming in on this one. For starters, out of 18 experts that I’ve seen pick this game, 17 have the over. I don’t know if I’m on that one yet, but if you’re into following experts, the over might be your bet. 1 experts out of 18 took the Mountaineers to cover the two touchdown minimum, and while I do agree, I never like those numbers. I was much happier last night when the public was all over UCLA and I had the Wildcats. We all saw how that worked out. Still, I’m sticking with my pick – I never take anything back, and while the 69% public run (by my numbers) makes me less confident, I still think the Mountaineers are that much better than the Orange.

West Virginia sits at 5-1 (Syracuse is at 4-2) and the Mountaineers haven’t played a completely powderpuff schedule. The Tigers of LSU got them pretty good, but West Virginia still put up a lot of yards against the Tigers, out gaining them by over 150 yards. They can really move the ball, and if you don’t have a powerhouse defense, you can’t contain them when they get close to the end zone.

Newsflash, Syracuse doesn’t have that defense. I think West Virginia loses the rushing battle, but gets some big plays from Geno Smith on way to an easy Friday Night victory.
