Atlanta Falcons @ Detroit Lions ATS Free Football Prediction: What a huge game for the…. Well, both teams, to be honest. It’s always hard for me to get into this “Huge Game” bull crap early in the season, but for completely different reasons, this is a big one for these two NFC squads.

The Lions finally took a tumble last week, losing in the final minute to Jim Harbaugh’s hand shake and the San Francisco 49ers. The Lions did very little to win that football game, struggling to put the ball in the end zone or make big plays against a very tough 49ers defense. Basically, they didn’t play very well. Going back, they’ve actually had a tough time putting together consistent halves of football this season, coming back from seemingly impossible odds twice already this season – a loss was bound to come.

Why is this game huge for them? Well, they need to prove (to themselves) that those crazy wins early in the season were more because of how good they’ve gotten and less because of how lucky the were. A win over a good Atlanta football team will do a lot to keep them moving in the right direction.

For the Falcons, who have surprised many and struggled out of the gates, 3-4 just seems like a tough hit to take headed into a bye in Week 8. As one of the top seeds in the playoffs last season, and an off-season that added a top-notch pass rusher to team with Jon Abraham, the Falcons were expected to continue their climb to the top of the NFC. But a big loss to Chicago to start the season, and losses to Tampa Bay and Green Bay have them at 3-3, not at all where they expected to be. This week is big for Atlanta, 4-3 on their bye week is a whole lot different than 3-4.
