Virginia Tech Hokies vs. East Carolina Pirates Point Spread and Pick

Did you think the Hokies were going to take it easy on a lesser subdivision team, Appalachian State, this time around? Yeah, I didn’t think so either. After their loss to James Madison in Week 2 last season, Virginia Tech probably had plenty of reason to step up to the plate in Week 1 this year. I doubt they ever overlook a subdivision team ever again. The Hokies blasted App State 66-12 and showed that they’ll be okay with out Tyrod Taylor running the QB position and Ryan Williams carrying the football.

East Carolina played back and forth football with a very good South Carolina team in Week 1 before stumbling down the stretch and losing by 19. Dominique Davis looked impressive for the Pirates, and I think he’ll give the Hokies some trouble on Saturday. He tossed 4 touchdowns against a solid South Carolina defense as both Lance Lewis and Justin Hardy got open down the field. I don’t think the Pirates will give up as many points as they did last week as the Hokies don’t have the kind of offensive firepower that South Carolina has, no Marcus Lattimore and no Alshon Jeffery to contend with.

The Pirates have a history of playing the Hokies tough despite a talent gap, and I think that continues – just something about your mental confidence in that situation. I expect a good one, and 20 points is too many.
