LA Lakers @ Miami Heat TNT Thursday Night NBA Free Pick: Miami’s game on Thursday against Lakers will show a lot, and another last minute loss could push Pat Riley into coaching. And that would be huge. But there’s a lot more to this game that has absolutely nothing to do with Pat Riley coaching, the last minute losses the Heat are accruing like Charlie Sheen is gathering bad press, the crying, and the griping about “my role” and all that business. The reason why I’m going to pick the winner of this game also has nothing to do with the fact that Miami has lost 21 games, and it seems like 18 or 19 of them have come right down to the final seconds. Shoot, it seems like they are due to start winning some of those, and it’s not because James is a better closer, but because it seems like luck would do better than that. Nope, my pick (THE LAKERS) comes down to a couple things, both of them related to the match-up that heavily favors LA.

The Heat are a team that really struggles with point guards (which the Lakers don’t really have) and big men (which the Lakers have a plethora of). In fact, the Lakers have three guys that play tougher down low than any player on the Heat roster. Bynum, Gasol, and Odom have been beasts this season, and Bynum has really been impressive of late. The bottom line is that not one player in Miami could guard any one of those guys, and that’s going to be a big reason why LA wins on Thursday.

The other reason is Kobe. And you might think this isnt’ “match-up related” but you’re wrong. Kobe is a shark. A killer. A bad mammajamma. When there’s blood (or tears, in this case) in the water, Kobe is at his best. The Heat might not fear the Lakers, but the Heat fear what’s happening to the Heat, and as long as there’s fear, Kobe’s there ready to end it.

In basketball, in sports, there are guys that thrive in the closer role and guys that don’t get it done. This game has one of the greatest closers of all time. He plays for LA. I’ll take the Lake-show to win and cover.

LA Lakers (-2) @ Miami Heat (TNT) (3/10)
