Week 15 NFL Free Picks New York Jets @ Pittsburgh Steelers: I really don’t think a 7 point line is at all accurate in this one. With Big Dumb dinged up a little at QB, and his offensive line even more damaged, how do the oddsmakers expect Big Dumb to be standing long enough to produce points at a “cover-by-a-touchdown” clip? It baffles me. I know the Jets aren’t that great offensively, and have really turned up the suck of late – but they score a point less per game than Pittsburgh. A single point less, yes, so offense seems to be a problem for both of these teams.
The Jets cause a lot of pressure, not straight up, I mean they take risks to apply pressure – and Big Dumb is good at warding off a guy or two, and if he does that with much success he will make some huge plays down the field – but they cause pressure nonetheless, and Pittsburgh has not protected their Big Dumb investment over the last few games.
Interesting (and almost completely meaningless) statistic; the home team has won every single meeting between these two teams since 2001. Pittsbrugh is 3-2 straight up but the Jets are 3-2 ATS. But these two teams are different now than they were then, coached by different guys, and the best players on the field for each team (except maybe Big Dumb and Hines Ward) probably didn’t play the biggest role in those games. But it is interesting, and I’m going away from that.
But then again, I’m not looking for an upset – I’m just looking for your token 13-10 game, 17-14, 20-17 – something of that nature. I think the Jets will play better offensively than they have over the last few weeks, and that’s because they have to. If they can score two touchdowns, the cover is as good as gold. I’ll shoot for that!
