San Francisco 49ers @ St. Louis Rams Week 16 Pick & Preview

San Francisco 49ers @ St. Louis Rams Week 16 Pick & Preview: I want to bet on the 49ers, I truly do. I love Troy Smith as a leader of a team (though his accuracy leaves a little to be desired) and have said for a long time that I suspect the 49ers to have just as good a chance as anyone to take the West, even when they started the season with 0-5. Now they have a realistic shot to complete my fortune telling ability, and I’m fading them in St. Louis. I can’t go with my original thought when I think the new idea is better.

The 49ers have gone 5-4 since losing 5 straight to start the season, but the team has been as inconsistent as their quarterbacking decisions. Alex Smith, Troy Smith, Alex Smith, Troy Smith – I can understand the confusion being that they have the same last name – but one of the guys is a tall skinny white dude and the other guy is a 6 foot stout black guy that runs a bit. You and I wouldn’t confuse the two, so I can’t believe the decision makers are having that kind of trouble. The inconsistency in decision making is a disaster for a football team, even one playing in the NFC West. I respect Mike Singletary as a man, and he’s my favorite player of all time, but this wishy-washy crap with the Smith guys is no good.

If the 49ers can’t be bothered to get out there every week and give it their best shot, or at least most weeks, I don’t know why they can be good enough to win out and get into the playoffs.

The Rams have been tough at home ad while Sam Bradford has struggled down the stretch, he’s a young quarterback with IT. If the 49ers show any hesitation in the pressure of their must-win situation, Bradford and the Rams will take full advantage. Neither team is good, is a sure thing, but the Rams have been more consistent and less willing to shoot themselves in the foot. I’ll go with them.
