Philadelphia Eagles @ New York Giants Free Pick & Preview

Philadelphia Eagles @ New York Giants Free Pick & Preview: The line isn’t great, because the way the Giants have been playing, more importantly, the way they’ve been running should make them a nice value play at home giving up just a field goal against the Eagles. But like I said the first time the Eagles played the Giants – they way Mike Vick is playing, and they way he gets way back and is damn near impossible for 4 defensive linemen to get a hold of, it takes away from what the Giants do best defensively.

New York plays a lot of base defense with just 4 pass rushers. That allows their linebackers and safeties to give most of their attention to the pass. Against the Eagles, 4 pass rushers doesn’t work. It’s not because their offensive line is so good, but it’s because Mike Vick is so good at making a guy or two miss. Now the Giants have to guard receivers longer than they usually do, and their defensive scheme struggles because of it.

But the Giants are really running the ball. Since Brandon Jacobs took the starting job back, both him and Bradshaw have started to become the strength of this offense (but then again, we all know Ellie is overrated, and he needs the run game like we all need oxygen). If they can commit fully to the run, they’ll make it tough on the Eagles.

But the Giants seem to forget that from time to time, like if they’re down at all (even a touchdown, or 10 points) they turn into a 90% throw football team.

Another thing that has me taking the Eagles here is that they are never out of a game and the Giants are never safe in a game. The Eagles need to take advantage of trips in the red-zone, but it’s winning time, and I think the Eagles are the best team in the NFC East. Now it’s time to prove it.
