NFL Week 16 Free Pick Detroit Lions @ Miami Dolphins: The Lions seem to be very competitive against anybody, no matter who they have starting at quarterback, and no matter how injured/dinged up their backfield is. Uh oh, watch out NFL, the Lions are getting good in the trenches and that’s going to move them from doormat to contender pretty quick here. You don’t believe me, you see their 4-10 record and you scoff at my claim – but I see them winning at least 7 games next year and probably 9-10 the year after that. I’m wild, but I think I’m right about this one.

The Lions have started and won with three different quarterbacks so far this season. They are coming off wins against Green Bay and Tampa Bay with Drew Stanton taking all of the snaps in both games. But he’s hurt now, and questionable, and it looks like Shaun Hill is back just in the nick of time, because he’s expected to play. I said it earlier this season, and I still think the Lions are probably best with Shaun Hill in at quarterback. He takes chances, sure, but a lot of positive stuff happens with him at the helm, and he sees the game pretty well. The upside with Stafford is obviously there, but Hill has that moxy and he gives the Lions a good shot.

When I say the Lions have been good up front lately, I mean it. They’ve won the rushing battle in 4 straight games, and that means a lot for a team that really struggles in that regards. Miami hasn’t been running the ball well, and they certainly haven’t been scoring much (14 or less in three straight games) so they don’t scare me all that bad.

The Lions are 1-6 on the road, but the Dolphins are 1-6 at home – so that stat means nothing going in. I guess I just expect the Lions to finish strong, they’ve played well all year and they have to feel good about themselves and where they are headed. There’s so much indecision in Miami, and without playoff hopes, it just seems like their season is a failure. I’ll take the road dog.
