New York Jets @ Chicago Bears Free Football Predictions: I’m a little surprised that the “experts” are taking the Jets to win at Chicago – but I’m even more surprised that the public likes the Bears to win over the almighty HBO Super Jets. Let us just call it a weekend of surprises before it even starts. Both teams are 10-4 straight up, both teams are in a great position for the playoffs (the Bears looking brighter than the Jets, but who’s counting) and both teams are winners against the spread this year (though just slightly). The Jets score 21 on average and give up 18. The Bears score 21 on average and give up 17. Both teams are 4-3 at home and 6-1 on the road (if you count their game in Minnesota – at the Golden Gophers’ home field – a road game for the Bears). Seems like a fairly even battle to me.
The Jets have been a little better on the ground than the Bears while Chicago has been a little better through the air. Nobody would think it, but Mark Sanchez has more passing yards (3009) than Jay Cutler (2891). Jay has 4 more touchdowns and just one more interception, a better quarterback rating, and a higher completion percentage (62-54%) than Sanchez. Those things you might suspect.
The Jets do have a better rushing attack, no doubt, and after struggling their previous two games, New York looked solid at Pittsburgh last week, better offensively and defensively, and they ended up winning in Pittsburgh because of it.
I know the Bears have played a lot of close games, and I expect them to be playing another one here – but I love their defense and think they give the Jets’ offense trouble. In a tight one, I’m taking the home team to win.
