Navy Midshipmen @ San Diego State Aztecs: Poinsettia Bowl Free Pick: I see this as a very tough match-up for the Midshipmen. They won’t be able to stop the Aztecs, and I’m not so sure they can out-run San Diego State either. The Midshipmen make fewer mistakes, no doubt about that, and if they can force the Aztecs into multiple turnovers, they could pull the small upset – but San Diego State will be ready and roaring to go for their first bowl game in more than 10 seasons.

The Midshipmen do have “strong post season performances” on their resume, and that means a lot. It means they’ve been here before and they’ve had success. I think this means more in Bowl games than I usually give it credit for. The Bowl experience is a very unique instance, and teams that keep being successful in that format have an advantage.

But this comes down to a couple things, the Aztecs hitting up their first bowl experience in years at home and I think San Diego State is the better team. I actually thin the -6 this game started at is more accurate. The Aztecs gave the Horned Frogs their biggest scare of the season, they lost to Utah by just 4 points and they barely fell against BYU. Their first loss was a field goal difference against Missouri. Do you see any themes here? San Diego State has only fallen to very good teams. They won’t lose at home against Navy. There it is.
