Fantasy Football Waiver Wire Pick-Ups: Week 12 Waiver Wire Warriors

Need some help with pick-ups this week? Well, this is the spot! I get some waiver wire pick-ups from the other 4 writers on the site, guys they’re targeting – new guys they’re looking at, or guys they think should be fully owned in all leagues. Last week we told you to jump on Sidney Rice (among others) and while Brett’s favorite target didn’t have a big day, he did play a lot, and stay healthy, and we’re thinking you’ll be happy you grabbed him if you did. Keiland Williams still looks like a great options, Mike Goodson looks to be doing well with the #1 job, and Kitna is racking up points like he’s Warren Moon driving the run and shoot. Here’s this week’s Waiver Wire Warriors article…

Papa wants to answer your questions, send them to PAPAWEIMER50@hotmail.com – he’ll answer and if it’s good (or if he gets off his lazy rump to copy and paste the interaction), post your stuff in his weekly “Ask Papa Weimer” spot. Here goes Waiver Wire Warriors for Week 11.

(Our WWW pick-ups are limited to guys owned in under 50%. Each writer ranks their Top 6. I’m also going to give you my “Pull The Trigger” area for guys that are obvious pick-ups and still owned in less than 70% of fantasy leagues. And there’s going to be an area called “End It Already” for guys that I consider drop-worthy, or try to trade now-worthy, regardless of their %-Owned.)

Pull The Trigger

Jon Kitna- (12% owned): Took over for Romo for half a game against the Giants, he went for 17 fantasy points on 187 yards passing and 2 touchdowns. He had 17 the next week despite 3 perfectly accurate passes that bounced off his receivers hands and turned into interceptions. Then 9… Since Jason Garrett took over, Kitna has 30 and 29 points respectively. I’d say that’s worth a pick-up.

Matt Cassel – (44% owned): Is it time for me to “reevaluate” (that’s for Brett) my feelings about Matt Cassel? I think so. Fantasy is about stats, so bottom line here, Matt has 18 touchdowns and just 4 interceptions. He has 14 and 1 over his last 6 games, and to Seattle the Chieftons go. I’m just saying, Cassel is having a better season than Eli Manning if you care about picks and passer rating. Eli still scores a couple more fantasy point per start, however. But Matt is on the up swing!

Vincent Jackson(59% Owned): Hasn’t done anything yet, but if Rivers can make the youngsters he’s been throwing to look good, I’m willing to bet that Vincent Jackson has a spot on fantasy rosters from here on out. Don’t be too late here.

Sidney Rice (43% Owned): Just 3 catches for 56 yards, but he played in most of the snaps and came out healthy. With Washington’s D coming up, and the Vikings shedding Chilly, Brett might just get the freedom to let it rip, and you can bet he’ll be looking for the guy that helped Brett accrue one of his best statistical seasons ever, last season. Rice should be owned in all leagues.

Mario Manningham (69% Owned): Now  Hakeem Nicks is out for 3 weeks. Manningham is now the #1, and he’s talented. If you don’t have him, stop joking around and get him. If you picked him up per my advice last week – lucky, lucky you!

Keiland Williams (12% Owned): Portis aggravated his groin area, and Torain is still hurting. Williams catches the ball well and runs hard, I know plenty of leagues that could really use this guy.

Brandon Petitgrew (37% Owned): I don’t know how the #7 TE in fantasy football is owned in just 37% of leagues, but with Petitgrew that is the case. Shaun Hill digs his sure-handed TE, and Brandon’s always on the field because he’s a good blocker as well. Get him, Brent Celek owners, the time is now.

Nate Burleson (27% Owned): Nate had 97 yards a TD and 7 grabs against Dallas. Since coming back from his Week 2 injury (the last 6 games) Nate has 35 catches for over 400 yards and 4 touchdowns. That’s a pace that, if followed for 16 games, would have Nate at around 90 catches for 1080ish yards and 9-10 touchdowns. Yet he’s owned in about a quarter of fantasy leagues. Silly rabbits!

Danny Amendola (27% owned): If you’re in a PPR league and want sure points every week, go grab the little white dude catching passes from Sam Bradford. Amendola had 8 catches for 63 yards this week, and he really has Bradford’s attention in St. Louis.

Steve Breaston (52% Owned): 92 yards or more receiving in 3 of the last 4 weeks. Not many touchdowns to speak of this season, but Breaston’s healthy, Anderson has a big arm, and Fitzgerald is getting double teamed already and it’s not even Tuesday yet.

End It Already

Last week I suggested you get rid of Nate Washington (who had a nice day and whom I might be wrong about – though we’ll wait and see before I admit complete incompetence), Laurent Robinson (who’s 5 catch 55 yard day was his best of the season, and who might be getting healthy finally, so I might be wrong again), Ricky Williams (I’m right about him), Tony Romo (out at least 3 more games, if you don’t have an IR spot, do the smart thing), and Brent Celek (who I’m also right about). Here are this week’s drops…

Roy Williams (41% Owned): Since Kitna took over, and since Dez Bryant started being the focal point on more routes, Roy’s big ass smile has caught 6 balls for 80 yards and no touchdowns. That’s 5 weeks of action I’m talking about. I’ve said “drop him” before, weeks before, but if you’ve been holding out hope, no better time than now with all those productive WRs just waiting to be owned. Don’t be like Jerry Jones, it’s okay to cut your losses in fantasy.

Donovan McNabb (79% Owned): I’m not saying he’s done, I’m not saying he won’t score points – but I am saying that from the looks of it, there are plenty of options owned in less than 70% of leagues that are better than McNabb. Ready, here’s five quickies off the top of my head… Matt Cassel, Josh Freeman, Ryan Fitzpatrick, Sam Bradford, Jon Kitna, Matt Hasselbeck, Shaun Hill – that’s more than five, but the point is well made.

Ricky Williams (80% Owned): I still think you drop Ricky and never regret it. I’m rooting for the guy, but he’s done after this year, he doesn’t get enough carries to be relevant, the Dolphins’ offensive line hasn’t been good enough to make him a starter even if he was getting more carries.

Clinton Portis (57% Owned): He looked solid this week, actually, taking 5 carries for 32 yards before going down with a groin deal again. It’s the health, and the emergence of two young guys (Williams and Torrain) that make me think it’s okay to drop Clinton.

Vikings (65% Owned): Wow, people are really holding on tight to this dream. I know, I know, you picked them way higher than you should have, people laughed when you went for it in Round 8, and took one of the first couple defenses off the board. Now you are scared of the message board ramifications if you drop him. So what, own it. Hawks (44%), Falcons (30%), Raiders (22%), and Browns (6% – with Carolina, Miami, and Buffalo batting 1, 2, 3 over the next few weeks) are all better and ready to pick up.

A couple guys WE think should be owned in ALL LEAGUES….

Mike Tolbert (74%) Pierre Thomas (78%) Mark Sanhez (74%) Vincent Jackson (59%) Sidney Rice (43%) Jacob Tamme (73%) Brandon Petitgrew (37%)
