Fantasy Football Waiver Wire Pick-Ups: Week 11 Waiver Wire Warriors

We were at it again with some solid advice last week. Arse and I both told you to run-get-Garrard, and he followed through with a nice performance against the always-beatable Houston Texan’s secondary. When we said “get him” the masses listened, doubling his percent owned in fantasy leagues. Garrard went for 28 fantasy points and owners everywhere sent us thank you cards. (Right…) Ryan listed Kitna as a Top 2 pick-up, and Jon ended up with one more point than DG. Josh Freeman had another nice day, and soon people will believe in him on a weekly basis, he’s about as consistent as it gets. Myself and Nate both liked Goodson, and he went for 100 yards on the ground in his first start. Brian Hartline also had a nice day. But guys are gong fast, so go get ‘em if you need ‘em.  Here’s this week’s WWW!

Papa wants to answer your questions, send them to PAPAWEIMER50@hotmail.com – he’ll answer and if it’s good (or if he gets off his lazy rump to copy and paste the interaction), post your stuff in his weekly “Ask Papa Weimer” spot. Here goes Waiver Wire Warriors for Week 11.

(Our WWW pick-ups are limited to guys owned in under 50%. Each writer ranks their Top 6. I’m also going to give you my “Pull The Trigger” area for guys that are obvious pick-ups and still owned in less than 70% of fantasy leagues. And there’s going to be an area called “End It Already” for guys that I consider drop-worthy, or try to trade now-worthy, regardless of their %-Owned.)

Pull The Trigger

Jon Kitna - (53% owned): Kitna is good. The Cowboys are loaded with gamebreakers. The Jason Garret-infused Cowboys look to be playing harder and showing a little more confidence. There’s no reason to think the Cowboys can’t torture the Lions’ secondary next week. Go ahead and roll with Kitna if you need some help at QB.

Mike Thomas (7% Owned): If Mike Sims-Walker is tough to trust, Thomas is easy to believe in. He’s always been good, and I’ve loved his game since he was ruining Pac-10 corners for Arizona. Mike Thomas has at least 12 fantasy point in 5 of his last 6 games. His Hail-Mary catch was big, and lucky, but he still had 7 catches and 100 yards receiving before that. Don’t be shy here.

Jabar Gaffney (39% Owned): He’s basically the #2 in an extremely potent passing attack – and he’s consistent, which is just something you rarely get from the WR spot. He’s had at least 50 yards receiving in each of his last 7 games, and he’s had 9 or more fantasy points in 8 of his teams’ 9 games this season. Good enough for me. Use his points.

Mario Manningham (69% Owned): He jumped nearly 20% (give or take) and he made owners proud of their moves. Manningham took advantage of Steve Smith’s absence, and even in a Dallas beatdown of the Giants, the former Wolverine finished with 10 catches, 91 yards, and a touchdown. Pick him up, hurry.

Anthony Fasano (26% Owned): Nate has been doing work if you haven’t noticed. He had his best week as a Lion in Detroit’s tight loss to the Jets, doing work on that famed Jets secondary, going for 113 yards and a touchdown on 7 catches. That’s 24 catches for 210+ yards and 3 touchdowns over the last 4 games. He’s scored 15 or more fantasy points in 3 of those 4 games.

Tyler Thigpen (.02% Owned): The last time Thigpen got starter snaps, he was throwing for 2600 yards and 18 touchdowns in Kansas City, all while running for 386 yards and 3 touchdowns in the process. He seems like the perfect QB for the Dolphins scheme, and he’s always been good at recognizing the team’s best receiving options and giving them chances (bonus for you, Marshall owners). He also loved throwing to Tony Gonzalez in KC, so maybe he’ll aim for Fasano in Miami? All things considered, he makes a lot of plays. He had some big games in 2008, and I expect he’ll have a few this season. Fantasy owners will always thank him for his Fantasy Finals Week performance of 420 yards and 2 touchdowns through the air while rushing for 57 and another score on the ground. Don’t be scurrd…

Brian Hartline (1% Owned): I know white receivers are generally ignored (sorry Steve Largent) but Hartline has been as consistent as you can get from a completely ignored fantasy source. He’s had double digit fantasy points in 5 games this season, and at least 4 catches and 40+ yards in each of his last 5. He’s had 50+ in each of his last 4 and had a season high 98 yards last week. I’m guessing he’s more than 1% owned next week…

James Jones: If Driver is out, he’s a money pick. If not, he’s still a very good receiver and has a solid match-up against the Minnesota Favre’s. Danny Amendola: Touchdowns in 3 straight games, good enough to go on watch-list. Shaun Hill: Still like any quarterback that feels good about throwing it up for Calvin Johnson to grab – Hill has been good at that every time he gets the nod in Detroit.

End It Already

Nate Washington (38% Owned): The Titans aren’t like the Vikings, Moss’s arrival doesn’t help receivers on the other side. It might help the TE spot in Tennessee, but one more WR that demands touches probably just makes the other WRs in Tennessee un-ownable.

Laurent Robinson (40% Owned): He must just not be recovered from his health woes from last year – because I’ve always thought he was solid. He’s been nothing this year… He caught a Touchdown in Week 1, he had 10 points. Since then, the best he’s done is 5 grabs for 33 yards. There are probably 20 receivers less owned than Laurent that I’d rather have on my team.

Ricky Williams (82% Owned): There might not be many better options out there, or there might be 10 – Ricky has double digit fantasy points just twice this season, and one of those was an 11-pointer. Chicago next week, Cleveland and the Jets in 2 of their next 4, so it’s not like his match-ups are good, either.

Tony Romo (55% Owned): I don’t think Romo plays much this year, and holding on to him in case he plays in the playoffs seems ridiculous. Let it go, let it go…

Brent Celek (78% Owned): The dream’s dead. Celek hasn’t done anything with Vick at the Q-spot, and I don’t think Kolb will be winning the job back anytime soon. Do this, drop Celek, pick up one of Heap, Olsen, Petitgrew, Gresham, Scaife, Watson – and be better because of it. If Vick gets hurt, just pick up Celek, nobody else will even have him on the radar because he’s been so ghostly.

A couple guys WE think should be owned in ALL LEAGUES….

Josh Freeman (57%) Pierre Thomas (80%) LeGarrett Blount (78%) Vincent Jackson (56%) Sidney Rice (40%) Jacob Tamme (73%)
