UCLA Bruins @ Washington Huskies College Football Free Pick: Betting on home teams mid-week seems to be a smart move, but this one just seems like a match-up problem for the Huskies. UW really struggles when it comes to stopping the run (at least they were terrible up until the first half of the Ducks game, where they actually played pretty solid). In fact, they are 118th in college football in that category, allowing 220 yards per game on the ground. They drop a lot of balls, and they aren’t very good on special teams. They have some talent, so a win here isn’t out of the questions, I mean UCLA isn’t that good – but when you look at UW’s struggles – their inability to move the ball consistently or stop opposing offenses – it’s almost impossible to bet on the Dawgs to win.
Like I said, UCLA isn’t that good – and I mean it. Before beating Oregon State on the 6th, the Bruins lost to Arizona 21-29 (not too shabby), Oregon 13-60 (best team in the Nation), and at Cal 7-35 (that’s pathetic). But they hae some talent, and their offense seems to be suited perfectly to oust the Huskies.
The Bruins have turned to the Pistol, where running is very important, and it has been effective. They Bruins sliced up Texas earlier this year, and they hardly passed the ball at all. Richard Brehaut, the quarterback that took over for Kevin Prince, has actually been pretty good for the Bruins. He’s more of a threat through the air, and he’s held his own on the ground as well.
I know Jake Locker is coming back for the Huskies, and he’s a good player, but he doesn’t get out there and make tackles, and that’s where the Huskies will likely lose this game.
UCLA Bruins (+2.5) @ Washington Huskies (Thurs)
