The Oakland Raiders have been the butt of a many a punch lines over the years, and for good reason, they’ve been a joke. But, and I feel pretty awkward saying this, I think this Raiders’ team is moving in the right directions. They cut their losses when they axed 1st Round bust, JaMarcus Russell. They not only improved the quarterbacking when they signed Jason Campbell, but their team leadership as well. They already have a solid run-blocking offensive line and some pretty talented no-name receivers. Zach Miller is one of the best tight ends in the league, and nobody talks about him. Michael Bush is a very good running back despite spending his first few years without getting many looks. And everybody is writing off Darren McFadden, but he’s running with plenty of upside as well. The Raiders have a pretty talented secondary, and they should be better up front with elite rookie Rolando McClain manning the linebacker position. The Raiders need to pass block better and do something about stopping the run – two things they were brutal at last season. But they showed some promise later in the year, and I wouldn’t be surprised if this team won 7 games. That sounds crazy, but I think that’s more likely than them winning 5. Take the over, even at that bum-payout, it’s a pretty good bet. There’s no chance this team wins the Super Bowl, so don’t worry about taking that chance. Could the Raiders win the division? That’s a bad question, because everyone knows the answer – no. Can they win a couple from KC, Denver, and San Diego? Certainly. Look for the Raiders to be much more competitive in 2010.
