AFC East Super Bowl Odds to Win: 2010-2011 NFL Futures Bet

February 15, 2010 by

Here are some of my thoughts on the new “Odds to Win Super Bowl XLV”. I’m breaking it down into each division and dropping my thoughts over the next couple weeks. I hope you enjoy and get down with the breakdown.

AFC East
Buffalo Bills (100-1)
Miami Dolphins (45-1)
New England Patriots (10-1)
New York Jets (25-1)

For the payout, their chances to win, and all things included – I think the Jets are the best value in the AFC East.

Buffalo Bills (100-1): The Bills really aren’t a 100-1 kind of team. Buffalo has a talented young defense and a pretty solid rushing game. Fred Jackson will likely be the guy moving forward, but Marshawn Lynch is a talented runner as well, and Chan Gailey (the new head coach for the Bills) is a bit of a running game/offensive guru. Are the Bills a good bet t win the whole thing? I believe it would take a lot of magic, but this team isn’t in the 100-1 category, so based on that, they might be a risk with taking. Still, almost never does a huge long-shot even get to the Conference Finals, let alone win the Super Bowl.

Miami Dolphins (45-1): With Bill Parcells in charge, you might say anything is possible. One thing is true, I wouldn’t put it past Bill to get a hold of some nice pieces for his consistently competitive Miami team. They have good coaching and one of the strongest rushing attacks in the league. They still are a little too leaky in the secondary for my liking, and they have questions at QB and in the passing game, but this team has some solid youth and a chance to make a run at it. I would put them at 30 to 35-1 area, though, so you’re getting a little bit more payback than I would expect.

New England Patriots (10-1): The Patriots have a shot at it, shoot, with Bill Belichick they always do – but it’s looking shaky in New England, and I’m not just talking about all the questions on the roster headed into the off-season. There you have guys upset about their contracts, guys that want to get cut, guys that have no idea why and what’s going on. When you add that with the fact that Bill Belichick might very well go into the season as the offensive coordinator and defensive coordinator, you have to wonder how good a bet they are at 10-1. I’d say not a very good one. They are old in some spots, unhappy as a whole, and have one brilliant coach but one that looks to overworked. With Tom Brady and Bill one might say you always have a chance. True, but a 10-1 odds type chance? I like the Packers, Cowboys, Titans, and Giants more – all with better payouts.

New York Jets (25-1): I might even go with the Jets over the Patriots if I had to pick one to win. Call me crazy, but I think this Jets defense could be downright scary if Kris Jenkins stays healthy. They will get Leon Washington back, which will automatically make them a more explosive offensive team, and with all the rumors looking to add key players to this offense and explosive defense, what’s not to like? I know they have a coach the whole team loves playing for and are very strong up front – Sanchez rarely takes much pressure. Yeah, add the Jets to my list of teams I’d rather bet on than New England. At 25-1, I think they are a Top 6 team listed right around 15th.
